The final installment of this blog comes down to talking about versatility in Spanish speaking countries.   I do not mean to make anyone hungry butt... let us look at Cuban cuisine.  Cuban cuisine thrives on the same diversity as the culture. The greatest influences on Cuban food are the Spanish, African, and other Caribbean cultures which in fact I think makes this versatile.  It has so many mixtures from different cultures that it includes a little bit of everything and is not just one single tasteless dish. This flavor mixture is the most precious treasure of Cuba.  Cuban dishes mostly contain a story and is treasured in Cuba.  So, you are telling me, I get a flavorful dish influenced by many cultures and there is a story about its making as well? In chapter three of  Tour de Force , there were a few examples discussed about versatility.  The topic of  versatility gets better and better each time I write a blog discussing it. Therefore for this blog, I will be focusing on two of those examples given and add an additional example of my liking to dive more into the world of versatility BUT specifically this time in Dutch speaking Caribbean countries. Since watching a few class videos, I took note of some people mentioned that I am interested to write about.   The first person is Wim Statius Muller.  Wim Statius Muller was born in Curaçao, 26 January 1930 and died in Curaçao, 31 August 2019.  Survey of Caribbean Music Versatility in Caribbean Music- French Speaking Countries In chapter two of  Tour de Force , there were a few examples discussed about versatility.  The topic of  versatility continues to amaze and interest me. Therefore for this blog, I will be focusing on two of those examples given along with an additional example to dive more into the world of versatility BUT specifically in French speaking Caribbean countries. Throughout French speaking countries in the Caribbean, versatility can be found within musicians, rituals, instruments, songs and many other parts of their culture.  The book  Tour De Force  written by Christine Gangelhoff and Cathleen Legrand mentions some of these versatile musicians and their part in music. According to the authors, Thurgot Theodat, a man from Haiti, wears multiple hats as he is known for playing his own version of Vodou Jazz.  Thurgot Theodot is known to be a saxophonist, composer, and an arranger. Therefore for this blog, I will be focusing on two of those examples given to dive more into the world of versatility BUT specifically in English speaking Caribbean countries. Throughout English speaking countries in the Caribbean, versatility can be found within musicians, dance, instruments, songs and many other parts of the culture in English speaking countries. The book Tour De Force written by Christine Gangelhoff and Cathleen Legrand mentions some of these versatile musicians and their part in music.   Versatility in Caribbean Music- Introduction This blog will focus on the theme of Versatility in Caribbean Music. The word versatility simply means to adapt or the quality of being useful. Based on the book Tour de Force, versatility for a musician is having a wide range of musical skills or  practices. In the case of music, the book mentions versatility as being engaged in a wide range of musical practices in order to sustain a career in music. With versatility, musicians are not only being confined to do one thing like sing, write lyrics or play the guitar but instead sing, write lyrics, AND play the guitar.
